Being healthier can be simple. Which is great news in the summer, when our schedules are out of whack and we are trying to soak up as much travel and outdoor activity as possible. It is not the best time of the year for focusing on health goals, or adding new changes to our routines to improve our wellness. So, I compiled a list of my top 3, simple health practices to help you out. These ideas are easy to do, have great benefits and you probably already have the items needed in your home! Pick one or try all three!
Simple, Healthy Practices & DIY
#1 Homemade Toothpaste Recipe
This recipe is so easy to make, and only takes two basic ingredients: baking soda and coconut oil. Add some essential oils to boost the effectiveness, and you have a homemade, cost-effective toothpaste without the synthetic chemicals or flouride (which may be contributing to low thyroid function). If you are thinking about entering the world of diy personal care products, than my homemade toothpaste recipe is the perfect place to start. It is easy to make, and simple to store and use. I receive so many great reviews from it, and Chris and I have been using it and loving it for over five years now.
#2 Oil Pulling
This practice is also for a healthy mouth, but some believe that it has added blood cleansing properties too. Chris and I attribute our white teeth to oil pulling, and if you have some coconut oil, then you can start oil pulling today. My oil pulling article, explains the simple how to steps, and all the benefits of oil pulling. It is one of the simplest, cheapest things you can do to improve your overall health.
#3 Sole Recipe
What is it? It is sea salt and water. That is it. But, by saturating water with sea salt, we get an ionically charged drink that is great for our bodies. Sole can help balance blood sugar levels, balance blood pressure, balance hormones, detoxify the body, hydrate with necessary electrolytes and more. My sole recipe is as simple as combining water and sea salt, and yet the health benefits from this simple practice are huge.
I hope you give these recipes and practices a try this Self Care Sunday!
Thank you for sharing the things you have learned in your wellness journey. I love that most of the things you suggest are inexpensive and easy to incorporate into my life. This morning I began the sole and oil pulling and look forward to seeing what that will do for me. My one huge concern is kidney stones from excess sodium as I do consume processed food daily, but definitely not excessive! (Sadly, I find this difficult to change…. ie…canned beans are more convenient than soaking and cooking beans!! etc… ) Any thoughts on this?? Is the 1 teaspoon of sole in 8 oz of water really going to add that much more sodium to my life? The benefits that you described from using sole are too impressive to pass up !! Again.. thanks for sharing your knowledge with us 🙂
Hi, Rhonda! Thanks for reaching out! I personally don’t think it would be a problem, but if you are concerned, then I would check with your doctor. I used to soak beans before RVing, but I know it is not very convenient. One thing I found helpful was to make a big batch and then freeze them – from the freezer, they were easy to grab and use in recipes. Here is a tutorial on soaking & freezing – https://www.myhumblekitchen.com/2012/01/a-tutorial-how-to-cook-dried-beans-to-freeze/. Hope that is helpful!
